Cohort VI: A workshop about Grief
Haven Men’s Work – Cohort IV: Grief
November 21 to 23, 2025 | Salt Lake City, UT
Inspired by the work of Francis Weller, Jungian depth psychology, and Sufi wisdom
At Haven Men’s Work, we hold grief as sacred. In a world that often encourages us to suppress or avoid sorrow, we gather to honor it — not as weakness, but as a gateway to deeper connection, authenticity, and healing.
This workshop is a space for men to come together in honest reflection, emotional courage, and communal presence. As a therapist and facilitator, I draw on multiple streams of wisdom, including the soulful framework of Francis Weller’s Five Gates of Grief, Jungian archetypal psychology, and the heart-centered teachings of Sufi mysticism, to guide us into meaningful encounters with our inner landscapes.
Together, we’ll explore themes such as:
• The grief that comes with losing what we love
• The pain held in parts of ourselves that have been rejected or forgotten
• The sorrow we carry for the world and the suffering of others
• The ache of unmet needs, longings, and unlived lives
• The ancestral grief passed down through our bloodlines
These gates, drawn from Weller’s work, serve as invitations rather than prescriptions — openings into the unique grief each of us carries. Through a combination of guided practices, story, reflection, movement, and shared silence, we’ll create a ritual space to be witnessed and to witness others in grief — not to fix it, but to allow it, honor it, and ultimately be transformed by it.
Grief is not a burden we carry alone. It is a river that connects us to each other, to what we love, and to the sacred.
A three-day, in-person gathering for men who are ready to stop carrying grief alone.
This workshop is designed to be a supportive and spacious container for men to explore grief in its many forms. No prior experience is needed — just a willingness to show up with honesty and an open heart.
You can expect:
• A welcoming, confidential and sacred space grounded in respect and non-judgment
• Gentle facilitation rooted in therapeutic presence and lived experience
• Invitations to reflect on your personal relationship to grief
• Exploration of the Five Gates of Grief as a framework, not a formula
• Guided practices including journaling, group sharing, somatic awareness, and ritual
• Time in silence and stillness, as well as opportunities for movement and expression
• Connection with other men walking their own path through grief and healing
• Opportunities to witness and be witnessed — without pressure to perform or “fix” anything
This is not group therapy in a clinical sense, but a deeply therapeutic space that honors the emotional, ancestral, and spiritual dimensions of grief. You are welcome to participate at your own pace and comfort level.
What to expect?
Is this workshop for me?
You’re carrying grief — recent or long-held — and don’t know where to put it
• You’ve lost someone or something that mattered deeply, and the pain still lingers
• You feel numb, shut down, or disconnected but sense there’s something beneath the surface
• You’re seeking meaningful connection with other men beyond small talk or surface-level conversation
• You’re curious about grief as a doorway to healing, depth, and growth
• You carry sorrow for the world — its violence, loss, or ecological destruction — and want a place to bring that pain
• You’ve inherited family or ancestral pain that feels unspoken or unresolved
• You long for a space where you don’t have to hold it all alone
Whether your grief is clear or unnamed, fresh or buried, personal or collective — this is a space to meet it with honesty and care, in the company of others who are doing the same.
